As President of Newark Pride, Inc., I am honored to invite you to join us in commemorating a historic milestone—the 21st anniversary of Newark Pride. This year, our theme “Our Bodies. Our Stories. Our Power!” celebrates the autonomy, resilience, and collective strength of LGBTQ+ communities, centering the voices and experiences of those often marginalized, including Black, Brown, femme, trans, and gender-expansive individuals.
Newark Pride was born from the need to resist violence and silence, creating a space where LGBTQ+ people could be seen, heard, and affirmed. For over two decades, we have nurtured resilience, amplified voices, and empowered our community to claim its rightful place in society.
This anniversary is more than a celebration—it is a call to action. Our 2026 program includes voter engagement, empowerment initiatives for LGBTQ+ youth, enrichment opportunities for seniors, year round community fellowship, and the return of the Newark Proud Awards, honoring changemakers who have paved the way for progress. Every event, every story shared, and every moment of joy reinforces that our bodies, our narratives, and our collective power are central to liberation.

ABOUT NEWARK PRIDE
Since its founding in 2005, Newark Pride, Inc. has been a steadfast advocate for visibility, equity, and empowerment within Newark’s LGBTQIA+ community.
The organization was established in the wake of the tragic murder of Sakia Gunn, a 15-year-old Black lesbian who was fatally attacked in downtown Newark in 2003.
